On Monday 6 November, we welcomed a record 31 new kaimahi into our innovative Health Care Assistant (HCA) Earn and Learn programme.
Now onto its eighth cohort, the programme has seen significant successes in building our health workforce since it was first introduced in 2021, with 73 people graduating so far and a further 63 people currently completing the programme.
The Earn and Learn programme means people interested in becoming an HCA can learn on the job, earning a full-time income while studying for their NZQA Level 3 qualification. The programme has meant more HCAs coming into our workforce and also enabled some graduates to discover their passion for healthcare. Some of our graduates are now training to become nurses, anaesthetic technicians and other registered health professionals.
