Celebrating our pharmacists on Allied Health, Scientific & Technical Professionals Day

As part of recognising our great kaimahi who work in Allied Health at Te Toka Tumai, we’re featuring one of our hugely talented pharmacists.

Aislinn Reid works in a realm that involves huge complexity. She’s what’s known as a Rotational Clinical Pharmacist - working alongside the clinicians, who these days have a bewildering array of medications available for the patients we care for.

She went straight from school to study for a four-year Pharmacy degree and then took on an internship at Te Toka Tumai.

Aislinn says she fills many different roles, including working in surgery, medicine, paediatrics, women’s health, and mental health.

“One of the functions I really enjoy is getting next to patients at several points in their stay with us, bringing reassurance about what we are doing with their meds, including adjustments to an often long list they are given to take home with them when they are discharged,” she says.

Aislinn says there’s lots more to her job, including ensuring, in consultation with clinicians, that patients are not being prescribed medications that will interfere, for example, with their kidney function.

“I’m learning new things every day about the huge array of medicines we have to help people," says Aislinn. "And I think I will have a very happy future here.”
