Whānau Feedback – Dafydd Llewelyn

Ngā mihi to Dr Dafydd Llewelyn, Neurology Registrar who received this feedback from a whānau recently. Dafydd has since joined the team at Te Whatu Ora ‐ Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley.
"Dafydd saw my brother when he was admitted to ED for a massive disabling stroke.

"During that extremely time sensitive crisis, Dafydd ensured that my mother and I understood exactly what was happening and what the course of action was and gave us the information clearly, concisely, and in a kind and considerate way.

"Throughout our short experience with Dafydd what meant the most to our family was that, aside from clearly being an excellent physician, was that Dafydd excelled at arguably the most important part of medicine: caring for people and communicating with them, not only the patients, but their support people.

"He showed compassion, understanding, and took the time to explain in detail what was happening and what the scans and surgery showed, and in ways that a layperson could understand the complex medical issues occurring. He displayed a concern not only for the patient but for the family, realising that we too are experiencing a trauma.

"My brother does not remember anything from that time period due to his brain injury and damage, but we do, we remember every horrific detail, but what we hold on to and what we choose to remember is how kind Dafydd was."
