Auckland City Hospital patients offered COVID-19 tests

Adult inpatients across Auckland City Hospital are currently being offered a COVID-19 test as part of the surveillance testing being carried out across Tāmaki Makaurau.

“This is for non-symptomatic patients and is optional,” says Dr Mike Shepherd, Interim Director of Provider Services. As it's for surveillance only there is no need for patients to isolate or do anything differently while waiting for the results.  We just think this is a good way to help with the surveillance testing needed to help  Auckland move out of Alert level 4.“

“This testing doesn’t replace the existing COVID screening and the processes already in place for patients we suspect may have COVID-19 or have been exposed to COVID-19, They are swabbed on arrival and go down a different pathway to others.”

“The testing isn’t compulsory, but we are encouraging everyone offered a test to take it and offering a vaccination too for those who haven’t yet had one.”
